About the Event
This co-sponsored event with the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School will be held in honor of former Director of the Institute of Politics, Setti D. Warren.
Held in conjunction with Veterans Day and marking the one-year anniversary of Setti’s passing, the event will reflect on his nearly four decades of public service, and the pathway of three mayors who served in the armed forces. An Iraq War veteran and U.S. Navy Reserve intelligence officer, Setti began his career in politics working for President Bill Clinton and Senator John Kerry. In 2010, he was elected mayor of his hometown of Newton, Massachusetts, becoming the state’s first elected Black mayor. He later continued his commitment to public leadership at Harvard as executive director of the Shorenstein Center and Director of the Institute of Politics.
The panelists will discuss how military service shapes leadership, the transition from military service to public office, and Setti Warren’s lasting example of principled, compassionate, and service-oriented leadership.
